Lifesaving Club - Lifeguard Training

Due to numerous requests and a clear need for additional lifeguards in Ndlambe, we are now pursuing lifeguard training using Albany Aquatics as our launch platform.

We have been in contact with Marcelle Thompson from Lifesaving Eastern Cape regarding the registration of a Lifesaving and Nippers Club under the umbrella of Albany Aquatics and she has pledged her support to us.

Ultimately the idea is to train lifeguards: however as this is a paid job over holiday times this does create the possibility of remunerating those who will be assisting with the outreach programmes we plan to run during the year and who perform free duty on our beaches over weekends and during early and late season.

These Lifeguards will be used to impart knowledge and information to the children at schools regarding water safety and the dangers of our sea and rivers, they will also be trained to educate the public on the health and safety aspects of a heated swimming pool environment.

Project statusProject Status: Seeking funding and support from government

We have opened up communications with the Ndlambe Municipality with regards to possible assistance with funding for this initiative. We also have the support from DSRAC on this, especially on the Long Term Participation Development – Lifesaving as a sport.
